Sustainable Building Education Program

The Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado was involved in a ground-breaking series of educational events to help create the knowledge and enthusiasm for high performance, energy-efficient sustainable building in Durango and the surrounding area.  The core of the education program revolves around building standards and practices that require third party certification, including the Energy Star for New Homes, the NAHB Green Building Program and USGBC LEED for Homes.  Third party certification is essential to establishing a standard that is easily understood by the public.  Our long term mission is to increase widespread public demand for residential and commercial building which is energy-efficient and more environmentally responsible.
